The Lego Group today announced a massive $400 million expansion in Monterrey, Mexico. The project will add 62,000 square meters, increase total production capacity by 35% and create additional packing and warehousing capacity. It will also add 1,300 jobs by 2029. The facility currently has some 7,300 employees.

The Lego Group has continued to expand its Monterrey factory since it opened in 2008. Chief Operating Officer Carsten Rasmussen said the company has a “long-standing commitment to Mexico” and said the plant will play a vital role in the company’s global manufacturing network. He said the investment sets up Lego for continued growth in the Americas region and will help the plastic brick maker meet growing demand.

Work on the new production areas is scheduled to begin in early 2027 and be completed by 2029. This expansion is in addition to a separate packaging and warehousing project announced in 2023. That effort, which added 59,000 square meters and 900 jobs, was completed earlier this year.
